The Early Signs

"Should I read this article? I'm still young and I know that arthritis is a disease afflicting seniors and those pushing near their senior years."

Don't be too sure about that and better invest a few minutes to read this. Diseases have been undergoing mutations that even children can now contract arthritis,
much like they can now be also afflicted with type 2 diabetes, or adult-onset diabetes, at a very young age. This was unthinkable decades ago, but now, times have changed. One's age is no longer an assurance that a person is still out of the reach of certain diseases.

So, how do you know now that you might already have arthritis developing in your system?

First, you must understand the complexity of the disease since there are hundreds of types and categories of arthritis which pose a big challenge for physicians just identifying the type alone. Fortunately, there are 3 common symptoms present in almost all types of arthritis at certain stages of the disease which can help us address the question.

3 Early Warning Signs To Watch Out For

Joint Pain or Tenderness

These are the earliest warning symptoms of arthritis. Usually, arthritic joint pain is not continuous. Sometimes the joint pain is there, at other times it is not there. It can come and go depending on your movement which can affect the afflicted joint.

Stiffness/Rigidity in the Joints

Another common sign normally linked to arthritis is the difficulty in moving affected joints. A classic scenario with rheumatoid arthritis sufferers is stiffness of the joint in the morning that comes with pain. If the pain worsens within the morning and lasts for an hour or 30 minutes before easing up, this is already a clearcut sign of the affliction.

Joint Swelling

The presence of joint swelling is a typical symptom of osteoarthritis, an inflammatory arthritis which is also the most common type. It is often accompanied by intermittent redness and increase in temperature in the affected area.

While the aforementioned warning signs are considered as the classic symptoms of arthritis, they do not always necessarily manifest together in every case. In many instances, they appear one at a time, with pain usually being the first to be felt.

Next to heart disease, arthritis is the second biggest cause of disability among Americans. It can attack anyone in any age bracket. By 2020, 20% of the American population, or nearly 60 million, is projected to suffer from arthritis. If the present trend does not change, 2/3 of this will be women.

So, if you're experiencing joint pain or tenderness, joint stiffness and rigidity, and swelling in the joint, it is advisable to seek medical assistance as soon as possible to avoid further damage. Don't dismiss it and assume that it will just go away, believing you're still young for the disease. Remember, if diagnosed and treated early, it is extremely manageable and can be slowed down to make you live and enjoy a normal life.

What's all these buzz over raspberry ketones? It's making a big splash all over media and the internet lately. You've seen it endorsed in Oprah's and Dr. Oz's television shows as a fat loss fruit. But before you go all out scooping up every raspberry you can find in the market, it's better to first understand the science behind raspberry ketones and weight loss.

Every one has the fat-burning hormone adiponectin in the body. When we're eating the right amount of healthy foods and this hormone is working as it is expected, the calories are properly metabolized and don't get stored as reserved fats around the belly, hips, and thighs.

When excess amounts of food are consumed and exercise is lacking, our adiponectin becomes sluggish due to the sheer amount of calories to burn. When that happens, that's when the unwanted belly fat, love handles, and cellulites, start to manifest.

In a research done on mice to correlate ketones and weight loss, it was found out that high doses of ketones on high fat diets prevented weight gain beneath the skin and around the organs. It also deterred the development of fatty liver. The researchers concluded that the ketones apparently stimulated the release of adiponectin resulting in increased insulin levels and boosting and heating up metabolism that burned the stored white fat cells.

It should be noted that in the same study, a high dosage of 200 times the amount of human intake did not result in any change in mouse body weight. This means that there is a certain level of intake of this raspberry fat loss fruit to generate the desired effect, beyond which no additional gains can be expected.

Another thing you should know is that the raspberry weight loss and fat cell shrinking benefits, first and foremost, can only be achieve by eating about 90 pounds of this fat-burning fruit. But don't despair. Raspberry ketones supplements are available in concentrations approximating that 90 pounds. Also, raspberries have several colors. And it seems that the weight loss benefits are delivered best by the red raspberry ketones variety.

It is also not a standalone weight loss solution. Remember what I told you in paragraph 3? Adiponectin works best when you eat healthy food in the right amount and you must have exercise. Therefore, raspberry ketones should be incorporated in a weight loss program that includes proper diet and nutrition, and regular exercise.

When you purchase raspberry ketones supplements, look for the pure formulation, if possible, one that does not contain added ingredients like caffeine. Make sure that raspberry ketone is listed at the top of the list, if there are other ingredients. There are cheap raspberry ketones supplements in the market, but the pure ones would cost over $30 a bottle.

There's one supplement in the market that perfectly fits our requirements. It's Raspberry Ketones Max. When you purchase this, you are automatically enrolled in an online fitness program that is not available to the general public. Your purchase is combined with a sensible food program and exercise routine that will maximize the fat burning work of your body's adiponectin!

I thought I'd share this article on the dangers of microwave cooking which has great relevance to a significant number of the population, especially in developed countries.

Microwave cooking is one of the best things that ever happened to the lives of busy people because it is convenient and quick. The trade-off, however, is simply not acceptable.

Microwave ovens have been around for about 40 or so years. Aside from television, it is present in almost every home in America, indicating its widespread use.

Is microwave cooking safe?

Let us tackle this question by citing findings from the only 2 in-depth studies done on them. These two research studies, done in Switzerland and Russia, both concluded that microwaving foods significantly deteriorated the nutrient value of the food, distorted its protein molecules, and created new, radically unnatural compounds. Most alarming, however, was that the subjects' health deteriorated from eating the microwaved foods.

Here are the findings:

Blood hemoglobin (the extremely important oxygen-carrying component of the blood) decreased significantly.

White blood cell count rose, (as it does in response to an infection).

LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) increased, and HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol) decreased.

Carcinogenic (cancer-causing) agents in foods increased.

Higher incidence of digestive system cancers.

The Russian scientists found the microwave oven significantly scary enough to actually ban its use--up until recently.

Microwaving has the following effects on food:

Significantly less B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E, essential minerals and fats.

Broken down and de-natured proteins.

Loss of vital enzymes and phytochemicals.

And here is a really interesting study—done on grain germination:

The grain watered with cooled microwaved water would not not even germinate or grow! It’s pretty obvious that microwaving changed the water chemically and destroyed its ability to nourish a plant.

Ok, so maybe it’s ok to just heat leftovers in the microwave oven once in a while?

NO! Actually, food heated in a microwave is heated unevenly creating super-heated spots and cool spots. Those cool spots may actually harbor bacterial growth such as salmonella, and you end up with food poisoning.

In addition, when you heat food using plastic containers or plastic wrap in contact with your food, you end up getting all sorts of nasty carcinogenic chemicals like di(ethylhexyl)adepate, or DEHA, Bisphenol-A or BPA, and xenoestrogens (synthetic estrogens) in your food!

In one recent study, it was found that carcinogenic ingredients in plastic wrap were 10,000 times the FDA limit for safety!

Exposure to BPA has been shown to cause reproductive problems and erectile dysfunction, and has been linked with cardiovascular disease and diabetes in humans.

Xenoestrogens can cause low sperm counts and feminization (like the dreaded “man boobs”) in men, and breast cancer and reproductive problems in women. It also promotes weight gain around the belly and chest in men, and it shows up as fat in the butt, hips, thighs, and the back of arms, in women.

So, in addition to being really unhealthy, microwaved foods can make you fat!
Here are 7 tips on how to boost your immune system and ward off sickness;

1. Focus on Vitamin D.

This is probably THE most important of all of these tips!

If you get your vitamin D levels tested, you generally want to be between 40-70 ng/ml. Once you get above 50 ng/ml, that's where the real benefits start to happen with a maximized immune system and balanced hormones.

When it comes to Vitamin D, you need to be careful about artificial forms as these are almost always either ineffective or possibly even detrimental to health. Vitamin D2 is generally the artificial version. Vitamin D3 from either cod liver oil or an oil-based D3 supplement are better options.

Keep in mind that it's best to get your vitamin D naturally from the sun if you can. It is the absolute best source of vitamin D, and leads to a powerful strengthening of your immune system when your body can naturally produce Vitamin D from moderate sun exposure. When the UVB rays from mid-day sun hit your skin, it reacts with oils in your skin to produce vitamin D that is slowly adbsorbed by your body. Note that sunscreens block the body's ability to produce vitamin D.

People with very pale skin tones may only need 10-15 minutes or so in full sun in the middle of the day to get adequate vitamin D before any skin damage occurs, but darker skin tones may need a slightly longer time (about 40-60 minutes). In general, the UVB rays are only strongest from about 10 am to 3 pm to trigger Vitamin D production.

How can you keep Vitamin D levels from falling dangerously low in your body?

The best food sources of natural Vitamin D are egg yolks, fatty fish such as salmon and mackerel, organ meats, and some mushrooms. However, keep in mind that it's tough to get enough vitamin D in the winter from food sources alone.

Make sure to get at least a decent amount of the best absorbed vitamin D by taking a moderate dose of cod liver oil daily in the winter. Take only small to moderate doses of cod liver oil (enough for about 100% to 150% DV of vitamin D), as large doses can possibly give you an overdose of Vitamin A.

To prevent taking in too much vitamin A, only take cod liver oil about 3 days per week, On the other 4 days (only in the winter), take an oil-based vitamin D3 supplement.

2. Garlic to strengthen your immune system!

Garlic is one of the most potent of all superfoods! Not only does high dose garlic go back thousands of years for treatment of sickness, but recent studies back up the legendary claims for garlic boosting your immune system.

What's best though -- "aged" garlic pills, whole garlic in foods, capsules, etc? I can't seem to find a consensus on this one, so what I simply try to do is use a variety of sources, including garlic powder on a lot of my foods, fresh chopped garlic in meals, and also a garlic capsule or two each day.

If I feel a possible cold or sickness coming on, I really start loading garlic into my foods heavily and I take a few extra garlic capsules that day too.

3. Kombucha tea (and other sources of probiotics) strengthen your immune system

Kombucha tea is a fermented tea that contains billions of friendly gut organisms (probiotics) that help to strengthen your immune system by bolstering your levels of good organisms in your gut.

Kombucha tea has a strong taste, so try to mix it with normal iced teas at 1/3 Kombucha and 2/3 regular iced tea. For a probiotic drink, get one that has very minimal sugar per serving (3-6 grams per 8 oz serving is acceptable).

You can also get beneficial probiotics from fermented foods such as sauerkraut (non-canned), yogurt, kimchi, and other fermented foods. There are also plenty of probiotic supplements you can take.

4. Green tea, Chamomile Tea, and other teas

There is evidence that green tea and chamomile tea can help aid in strengthening the immune system.

Even if the effect is small, you can't go wrong because both are loaded with powerful antioxidants unique to each tea.

For that reason, try to drink a couple cups of green tea with a small bit of raw honey early in the day, and then at night, have a couple cups of chamomile tea.

5. Loading up on antioxidants

We already know how important antioxidants are to overall health as well as immune system support.

Make sure to really load up on antioxidant-rich fruits, berries, teas, unsweetened cocoa (in smoothies, etc), and veggies to help prevent sickness.

Sometimes I make what I call my "Superhuman smoothie", which I believe can really bolster your immune system, with loads of powerful antioxidant-rich berries, raw cacao, maca, spirulina, chia seeds, etc, etc.

6. Light exercise (yes - light exercise, not hard)

When you feel a sickness coming on, a super-high intensity workout is not a good idea, as hard training forces the body to do a lot of recovery, this at a time when your body needs all of it's efforts on trying to fight off the oncoming sickness.

Although I usually recommend high intensity training most times... when sickness might be coming on, it's just a good idea to get some light exercise instead.

Personally, I like to get outside for some fresh air and go for a hike or go snowshoeing in the winter. These aren't very strenuous for me, so they won't cause my body to be forced to do a lot of recovery... but just getting out in the fresh air and getting the circulation going can help the body fight off the sickness.

7. Avoid ALL processed foods and sweetened soft drinks

If you're serious about your health and getting lean for life, this should be an everyday rule for you (except maybe for cheat meals)...

All of these force your body to do extra work to deal with all of this junk and the internal inflammation that they cause in your body. And by the way, grain-based foods like bread, cereal, muffins, pasta, and bagels are a big culprit in causing internal inflammation and disrupting normal gut function, so avoid grains as much as possible.

Instead, (especially when you might be getting sick) you need to give your body only wholesome unprocessed foods that are only 1 ingredient and that we were meant to digest most efficiently...fruits, berries, veggies, eggs, nuts, seeds, grass-fed meats, etc.

These 7 tips will go a LONG way to helping to ward off that sickness that is trying to get a hold of you... Here's to a healthy strong body!

Whether you choose to believe the exact story that this popular video below portrays is up to you.
Do cold temperatures really make you sick? This huge misconception that more people get sick during the winter months due to the cold weather is blatantly false.

Multiple studies exist that show exposure to cold actually increases immunity to diseases. Like the one that demonstrated how cold therapy, such as ice water baths or cold water swimming, can stimulate an improvement in the body's immune system.

Is it maybe because of more germs floating in the air during cold months? But some medical sources indicate that there might actually slightly be more microbes during summer due to the more favorable conditions for their survival in the environment.

What then makes more people sick in the winter time? It's the strength of the sun's rays and how this affects the production of Vitamin D in the body. The reason people get sick more in the winter is mostly due to a drastic reduction in their body's production of Vitamin D, which is directly responsible for how strong their immune system is.

During winter, the sun's rays are generally too weak to stimulate any significant Vitamin D production inside your body, which results in a substantial drop in Vitamin D levels, and consequently, reduced immunity. Most people don't realize how important sunlight and Vitamin D levels really are towards so many functions inside their body, including immune system and hormone production and balance. In fact, so many illnesses can be attributed to a deficiency in Vitamin D. Yes, that's how important it is to your body so give it the attention it richly deserves, for your own good.

So, during winter, boost your immune system with foods rich in Vitamin D and/or Vitamin D3 supplements to avoid getting sick. Take note: Vitamin D3. This is the right form to take. Whenever sunlight is available, take advantage of it. It is the best stimulator of Vitamin D production in your body, and it's free.

You'll be surprised what a lot of difference this simple tip can do to your health and well-being.
Over the years, media has been misinforming us that dietary fats are the cause of heart ailment, the number one killer among major diseases in the US. Recent scientific researches, however, have proven quite clearly that such is not the case. Artificial trans fats are admittedly a big cause of heart disease, but not the the healthy natural fats found in unprocessed foods.

But here's another cause of heart disease that most people aren't aware of...

First, remember that LDLs can be classified as either big puffy LDLs (type A, which don't contribute to plaque in the arteries) and small dense LDLs (type B) which do contribute to plaque in the arteries.

Now this is where it gets interesting... High insulin levels from a high carbohydrate intake over time cause your body to produce higher levels of nasty small/dense LDL particles in your blood (type B LDL particles), which are known to cause plaque in your arteries.

Yes, that's right... a chronically high carb intake can actually be one of the causes of heart disease.

What does the government recommend... a high carbohydrate diet. Doesn't make much sense does it? Is their recommendation biased to support big business? I'll let you decide on that.

Now another thing to keep in mind are your triglyceride levels. Higher triglyceride levels in your blood are another risk factor for heart disease. According to well-known nutrition author Robb Wolf , "Triglycerides are a measure of circulating blood fats, so you would think a high-fat diet would mean high triglycerides, right? Interestingly, this is not the case. Triglycerides are in fact an indicator of high dietary carbohydrate and insulin sensitivity. High carbs and poor insulin sensitivity = high triglycerides."

Once again, everything you've been told over the years about eating a high-carb diet being healthy, is not quite accurate. Eating moderately higher protein and healthy fats along with loads of fibrous vegetables, nuts, and small amounts of fruits (while minimizing grains and sugars) can all be exactly what we need to prevent heart disease and also diabetes.

I wanted to talk about artificial sweeteners today because I've noticed that there's a lot of confusion and misconceptions revolving around these non-caloric sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners and the huge list of products sweetened with them are marketed to you relentlessly as "healthy foods" or "healthier" than sugar or corn syrup sweetened products. But are they really?

Just to clarify, some of the most popular artificial sweeteners on the market today are:

Splenda (sucralose)

Aspartame

Saccharine

Acesulfame Potassium (aka - acesulfame K)

These artificial sweeteners are used in abundance in almost every "diet" drink, "lite" yogurts, puddings, and ice creams, most "low-carb" products, and almost all "reduced-sugar" products. Heck, even most protein powders are loaded with artificial sweeteners too (just look on the ingredients and you'll usually see one of them).

Splenda is probably one of the worst offenders of claiming to be "healthy" as they say that it's made from real sugar. Don't be fooled! It's still an artificial substance. What they don't tell you is that Splenda is actually a chemically modified substance where chlorine is added to the chemical structure, making it more similar to a chlorinated pesticide than something we should be eating or drinking.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions that I see all of the time and it saddens me to see so many people poisoning their family with dangerous artificial sweeteners like splenda, while falsely thinking they're doing something healthy.

The truth is that artificial sweeteners are not even close to being healthy, and as you'll discover in a minute, can easily be just as bad for you, if not worse, than sugar or corn syrup. Most people think that they are doing something good for themselves by choosing the "diet" drinks or "lite" yogurts compared to the sugar-laden versions, but the problem is that you're exposing yourself to a whole new set of problems with the artificially sweetened drinks and foods.

I know you're probably frustrated by all of the contradicting messages you hear each day about which foods are good for you and which are bad. I'm sure just today you probably saw some clever ad or commercial somewhere screaming health benefits for a food product that is loaded with artificial sweeteners. Don't worry. Just stick with me and I'll get past the marketing hype for you and decipher the truth. I'll also give you some ideas for great alternatives to artificial sweeteners as well as alternatives to sugar or corn syrup sweeteners.

The fact is, artificial sweeteners vs. sugar or corn syrup is really just a battle between two evils. Which evil is worse?

I'm sure you already know the problems with sugar or high fructose corn syrup sweetened products. The excess empty calories, blood sugar spike, and resulting insulin surge this creates in your body not only promotes fat gain, but also stimulates your appetite further, making things even worse.

On the other hand, artificial sweeteners save you calories, but there's growing evidence that they can increase your appetite for sweets and other carbohydrates causing you to eat more later in the day anyway. Therefore, you don't really save any calories at all. Also, studies have shown that artificial sweeteners can stimulate high insulin levels in your body too, which again can promote fat storage.

All of the 4 artificial sweeteners listed above are nasty chemicals that the human body is simply not meant to ingest. However, most of us are ingesting a whole lot of these chemicals on a daily basis. Aside from the problems I touched on so far, other health issues that have been related to artificial sweeteners in scientific studies as well as observations are:

some have been linked to potential cancer risks

negative effects on the liver, kidneys, and other organs

stimulating cravings

gastrointestinal problems

developmental problems in children and fetuses

headaches

and too many more issues to list

Now some of the above potential health problems are definitely not proven as fact in studies. However, some of them have been shown in animal studies given high doses. Also, if you do some research, you'll find hordes of people that attribute the use of artificial sweeteners over the years with all sorts of illnesses in themselves or in family members.

Regardless of the fact that any real health problems for actual human use are not proven yet, I don't know about you, but I'd rather protect myself and my family and steer clear of these possibly dangerous artificial chemicals.

Of course, despite all of the health issues potentially associated with artificial sweeteners, the companies that sell the products will continue to claim that they are fully safe. Don't believe them! The bottom line is that the body was not designed to deal with foreign substances like artificial sweeteners. Take my word on that one.

So what are your options for alternatives?

Well, your best alternatives for sugar or corn syrup are either raw honey, organic maple syrup, or even a little-known high antioxidant syrup called sorghum syrup (common in the southern US). Even though these alternatives still have the same amount of calories as sugar or corn syrup... honey, organic maple syrup, and sorghum syrup actually provide some nutrients and antioxidants, so it's not just empty calories. Empty calories such as white refined sugar stimulate your appetite more because your body is lacking nutrients.

Now you're probably thinking that you'd like to still save on calories but avoid the nasty artificial sweeteners. Good news... You can!

You've probably seen me reference this natural sweetener in a lot of my recipes. It's called Stevia. I've been using it for years as an alternative sweetener when you still want to save a little on calories and sugar but don't want to harm your health with artificial sweeteners.

Stevia is not artificial like the other chemical sweeteners I mentioned above. Stevia is a natural non-caloric herb that's been used for thousands of years in some parts of the world. It is a South American herb and when dried into a powder, has a sweetness about 200-300 times stronger than sugar.

One problem I've noticed with using Stevia is that the pure powder is a very powerful sweetener, so you can easily use too much. However, I've found some good Stevia products that use a bulking agent added so that you can measure out the stevia powder in direct comparison to measuring sugar.

I've yet to see any negative reports or health concerns regarding stevia and only positive potential health benefits. I definitely give Stevia my seal of approval. Do yourself a favor (and your family), and if you are currently an artificial sweetener junkie, please consider switching to Stevia.

Mmm, coffee... almost everybody drinks it... some people have 3-4 cups per day or more.

But most people don't think of it as a "health drink". And it's certainly NOT healthy the way most people make it with loads of added sugar or artificial sweeteners and artificial creamers.

But I'll give you my tips here on how I make a healthier cup of coffee and what to watch out for...

First, you may have seen debate in the past about how coffee has some compounds in it that could have negative health effects such as some tars or other possibly inflammatory compounds in brewed coffee. But, the good news is that coffee has such high concentrations of beneficial antioxidants, phenolic nutrients, chlorogenic acids, and other healthy compounds, that it more than counteracts any bad compounds.

In fact, coffee provides the biggest source of antioxidants for most Americans. Although a lot of that has to do with the fact that many Americans don't get enough antioxidants from fruits and veggies, so coffee ends up being their biggest source. You should try to diversify your sources of antioxidants from fruits, veggies, spices, berries, beans, unsweetened organic cocoa, teas, and yes, even coffee if you like it.

So what's the best way to make a healthy cup of coffee? Well, here's my 3 most important tricks to maximize the benefits of coffee and minimize the negatives:

1. First of all, you need to AVOID adding any refined sugar or harmful artificial sweeteners. What I do instead is use either a very small touch of organic maple syrup or a half packet of natural stevia to just lightly sweeten my coffee. If you like your coffee black with no sweetener at all, that's the healthiest way.

If you're getting your coffee at a coffee shop, make sure to avoid all of those fancy specialty coffees (sweetened flavored lattes, frappuccinos, etc) as they are almost ALWAYS loaded with extra sugars or artificial sweeteners. Some of those fancy coffee drinks at Starbucks or other coffee shops can have 300-400 calories in just one coffee! Definitely not good for your body or your blood sugar or insulin levels.

A latte or cappucino can be okay as long as you make sure to ask for it unsweetened, and then use your own stevia if you need a light sweet taste.

2. You also should try to AVOID at all costs any of those crappy artificial creamers (liquid or powder), which are usually made with corn syrup solids and hydrogenated oils (harmful trans fats). Instead, use a little bit of REAL full-fat cream (organic grass-fed if you can find it, as the CLA in grass-fed cream is very healthy).

Or, better yet, what I've been using for a while now is coconut milk/cream as one of the healthiest creamer alternatives. I get this by buying cans of organic coconut milk, and then after opening the can (shake the can well before opening), I store the coconut milk in the fridge in a container. Note that the cans of coconut milk are much creamier and better as a coffee creamer than those cartons of "coconut milk drink" which are just watered down coconut milk.

The thick creamy coconut milk is the healthiest option for coffee creamer because it's loaded with super healthysaturated fats called medium chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are known to boost your immune system and your metabolism! Plus, coconut milk in coffee is just plain delicious! It's the best healthy creamer option by far.

When people visit my house and we make a pot of coffee, I'll have them try the coconut milk/cream in their coffee and almost everyone always comments how much they love it!

3. If you want to load your coffee up with more healthy antioxidants and good taste, consider trying some added cinnamon to your coffee (cinnamon can help control blood sugar and has many other health benefits). It's also really tasty in coffee!

I also sometimes like to add a teaspoon of organic cocoa powder (non-sweetened) to my coffee to make my own sort of mocha coffee (but without the loads of sugar in a typical mocha you'd get at the coffee shop). The added cocoa powder also gives you great taste and a good dose of extra healthy antioxidants (and cocoa is also known for helping to lower blood pressure!)

I personally only drink coffee about 3-4 times per week, because I'm sensitive to caffeine and don't want to get addicted to caffeine like some people are. I see people that drink 3-4 cups per day that get a massive headache if they don't have their daily coffee due to caffeine withdrawal. I choose to avoid this addiction by only drinking it about 3-4 times a week, and I drink various teas like green, oolong, black, and white teas most other days, which are much lower in caffeine.

But despite the caffeine content, there is loads of data that show the high antioxidant levels and health benefits to coffee. If you love coffee, feel free to share this article with your coffee-loving friends and family.
navy brathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05087777054462571801noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089913784750981096.post-90302831525863315202012-04-06T19:45:00.000-07:002012-05-04T21:48:05.568-07:00Losing Your Belly Fat the Right Way with These 2 Vital Strategies

I'm sure you see TONS of commercials and ads making all kinds of miracle claims for losing your belly fat overnight with their magic pill or wildly-hyped snake-oil supplement.

Let's get past all of the scams and gimmicks and get right down to the hard science and reality behind what techniques and strategies really do help you for losing your stubborn belly fat and keeping it off for life!

1) The first important principle we'll discuss is how you structure your workouts. In order to stimulate fat-loss from your stomach, you need to stop wasting so much of your time doing all kinds of various abdominal exercises and hundreds of reps of crunches, leg lifts, and torso twists in the hopes of "spot-reducing" your belly and love handles.

I'm sure you know by now if you've read any reputable fitness publications over the last decade that spot-reduction DOES NOT occur. It's a myth that just won't seem to go away. The truth is, losing belly fat does NOT occur by doing exercises that target the stomach area. Unfortunately, even though most people by now do understand this (or at least they should), they still spend WAY too much of their training time trying to target the stomach with tons of abs exercises.

Now don't get me wrong, a certain amount of abdominals exercises are great and they do help to strengthen your core and help you maintain a healthy back. But the fact is that direct abs exercises should only be a small portion of your workout routines. The majority of your time should be spent focusing on big multi-joint exercises that work the largest muscle groups of the body like the legs, chest, and back.

Now that is one of the REAL secrets for ridding yourself of that sloppy belly fat for good. Focusing on big multi-joint exercises for the largest portions of your body greatly increases your metabolic rate both during the workout, and for 24-48 hours after the workout. In addition, this also stimulates an increase in fat-burning hormones within your body. You simply don't get this type of metabolic and hormonal response by wasting most of your time with "abs-pumping" exercises.

Want to lose your belly fat the right way?... Well, get your butt under a barbell and do some squats, some lunges, some deadlifts, step-ups, some back and chest work. For you ladies, don't worry...it's not going to "bulk you up."

It doesn't matter per se if it's barbells, dumbbells, or even bodyweight exercises... the focus needs to be on big multi-joint exercises at a high intensity. That means no 5-minute rest periods between sets while you flap your gums with half of the people at the gym. Losing that stubborn belly for good requires some focus and intensity in your workouts! Anybody who tells you that you can do it while sitting on your couch watching TV with some "ab-belt" strapped to you, or doing only 2-minutes of crunching with your "ab-rocker-roller" is flat out lying to you!

2) The second important principle to rid yourself of that flabby belly revolves around your nutrition. The first thing you need to realize is that "diets" only work against your body in your effort to lose the stomach fat. You see, if you follow any of these fad diets like extremely low-carb, or low-fat, or the grapefruit diet, the soup diet, or anything else that restricts 1 or more of the macro-nutrients (protein, carbs, and fat), most of the time you will actually lose lean muscle and lower your metabolic rate. This only makes you fatter in the long run, when you start to eat normal again!

I could go into all kinds of details, but essentially you are messing up processes related to your hormonal balance in your body, the muscle glycogen process, insulin, blood sugar, etc., and this stops your fat loss dead in its tracks!

It's important to stop falling for the fad diet gimmicks, and understand that as humans, we are meant to eat a balanced diet full of a diverse array of foods from healthy natural sources of carbohydrates, proteins, AND fats. This gives your body all of the macro-nutrients as well as all of the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes that your body needs to run like a well-oiled fat-burning machine!

Believe it or not, I've unknowingly used chlorine as my coffee sweetener on so many occasions simply because the sweetener of my choice was not around. I'm sure a lot of you have also been deceived into using this "healthy" sugar replacement. I see it everywhere where a sweetener is needed..... in my kins' and friends' houses, in coffee shops and restaurants, in airplanes and ships.

I'm referring to the very popular brand Splenda [sucralose]. The manufacturing process for Splenda starts with cane sugar. By the time the processing is done, all the real sugar disappears and what is left are the chlorocarbons....the same molecules that chlorine is made of. This is the same chlorine we put in our pools and in our washing machine in the form of chlorine bleach.

Recently, I came across some very disturbing information. A study from Duke University, published in the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health was conducted where lab rats were fed Splenda for 12 weeks. After the study, it was revealed that the chlorine found in Splenda destroyed all of the good bacteria in their guts that helps fight off infection and plays a central role in the immune system.

Dr. James Bowen, a graduate of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and an authority on artificial sweeteners after being poisoned by aspartame [NutraSweet], has this to say about Splenda;

"Splenda/sucralose is simply chlorinated sugar; a chlorocarbon. Chlorine is nature's Doberman attack dog, a highly excitable, ferocious atomic element employed as a biocide in bleach, disinfectants, insecticide, WWI poison gas and hydrochloric acid.

Any chlorocarbons not directly excreted from the body intact can cause immense damage to the processes of human metabolism and, eventually, our internal organs.

The liver is a detoxification organ which deals with ingested poisons. Chlorocarbons damage the hepatocytes, the liver's metabolic cells, and destroy them. In test animals Splenda produced swollen livers, as do all chlorocarbon poisons, and also calcified the kidneys of test animals in toxicity studies.

The brain and nervous system are highly subject to metabolic toxicities and solvency damages by these chemicals. Their high solvency attacks the human nervous system and many other body systems including genetics and the immune function. Thus, chlorocarbon poisoning can cause cancer, birth defects, and immune system destruction. These are well known effects of Dioxin and PCBs which are known deadly chlorocarbons."

My preferred sweetener which I mentioned at the start of this post is Stevia. It is a sweet herb used for centuries, especially in South America. It's about 300 times sweeter than sugar and comes from the leaves of the Stevia plant.

The FDA has approved Stevia as a food supplement, so you can buy it at most health food stores or on the Internet. And that's good news, considering the FDA blocked the use of Stevia for almost 100 years due to pressure from the sugar industry.navy brathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05087777054462571801noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089913784750981096.post-89302048251277594762012-04-03T00:06:00.000-07:002012-05-04T21:49:48.875-07:00Obesity Is Contagious?

This is a very interesting study. But before the headline makes you start raising your eyebrows, this has nothing to do with microbes.

Data from a 2007 research published in the New England Journal of Medicine seem to show that obesity is "socially contagious," meaning, people are inclined to be obese too when their friends and family become obese.

The researchers, who are sociology professors from Harvard Medical School and the University of California, found that a person's probability of becoming obese increases by:

57% if he/she has a friend who becomes obese
40% if he/she has a sibling who becomes obese
37% if his/her spouse becomes obese
171% if one of his/her mutual friends becomes obese

The researchers noted that the chances of becoming obese still hold even if hundreds of miles separate them from friends or family.

It was also observed that the odds of following the path to obesity is strongest among the same sex - among friends, and siblings, of the same gender. The influence of a friend, or kin, of the same sex, outweighs that of the spouse due to this same sex theory.

This social phenomenon, by the way, also holds true on the other end of the weighing scale. People also tend follow suit when a friend or family member starts losing weight.

Above results were culled from 32 years of data, analyzed for its association with obesity, from the Framingham Heart Study involving more than 12,000 participants. [read: Being Fat Is Symptom Of A Toxic Body]

I'm inclined to believe these findings. Friends and family influence our lifestyle. When they are active physically, you tend to be so too. When they lead passive lives, chances are you are living the same way. And I do agree that friends exert a far greater impact in this regard.navy brathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05087777054462571801noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089913784750981096.post-79926104753222277512012-04-03T00:05:00.001-07:002012-05-04T21:50:44.105-07:00Rebirth Of Standing Desks

A standing desk, as the term implies, was envisioned to be used for reading or writing in an upright position. It was a popular fixture in the homes and offices of the affluent during the 18th and 19th century.

The standing desks, however, never really dominated the market as the traditonal desks, designed for use with comfortable chairs, were preferred by the great majority of corporate and individual consumers.

But lately, the standing or stand up desk, is getting a second hard look due to recent research findings on the ill effects on health of long hours of sitting. [read: Don't Waste Exercise Gains With Long Hours Of Sitting]

It seems that the standing desk is the practical solution to the health issues raised by prolonged hours of sitting. Growing numbers of schools and offices which are concerned about the health of its students, and employees, respectively, are investing on standing desks.

And why not? A healthy student population means higher productive learning and lesser absences due to health reasons. And a healthy workforce equates to increased production and lower medical expenses. Everybody happy and healthy.

There's even a model that you can use with a treadmill, meaning you can walk in place while you're doing your work. This model, known by its trademark TrekDesk, stands above competition due to its innovativeness and practicality, its ergonomic design, and reasonable price.

Below is a sketch of the model.

This is a satirical account of how Man's health deteriorated over the years due to his unhealthy food choices and passive lifestyle. The presentation may be funny, but I find a lot of truth in it.

Here goes.....

In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth and populated the Earth with broccoli, cauliflower and spinach, green and yellow and red vegetables of all kinds, so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives.

Then using God's great gifts, Satan created Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, and Krispy Creme Donuts. And Satan said, "You want chocolate with that?" And Man said, "Yes!" And Woman said, "As long as you are at it, add some sprinkles!" And they gained 10 pounds. And Satan smiled.

And God created the healthful yogurt that Woman might keep the figure that Man found so fair. And Satan brought forth white flour from wheat, and sugar from cane, and combined them. And Woman went from size 6 to 14.

So God said, "Try my fresh green salad." And Satan presented Thousand-Island Dressing, buttery croutons and garlic toast on the side. And Man and Woman unfastened their belts following the repast.

God then said, "I have sent you heart healthy vegetable and olive oil in which to cook them." And Satan brought forth deep fried fish and chicken fried-steak so big it needed its own platter. And Man gained more weight and his cholesterol went through the roof.

God created a light fluffy white cake, named it "Angel Food Cake," and said, "It is good." Satan then created chocolate cake and named it "Devil's Food."

God brought forth running shoes so that His children might lose those extra pounds. And Satan gave cable TV with remote control so Man would not have to toil changing the channels. And Man and Woman laughed and cried before the flickering blue light and gained more pounds.

God brought forth the potato, naturally low in fat and brimming with nutrition. And Satan peeled off the healthy skin and sliced the starchy center into chips and deep-fried them. And Man added more extra pounds.

God then gave lean beef so that Man might consume fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite. And Satan created McDonald's and its 99-cent double cheeseburger. Then said, "You want fries with that?" And Man replied, "Yes! And super size them!" And Man went into cardiac arrest!

End of account.....

The lesson here is that the state of our health is very much in our hands. It is just a matter of using the free will that God has granted us to make the best choices in every situation, including the foods we eat and the lifestyle we lead.

Hot dog, bacon, ham, corned beef, sausage, luncheon meat. We all grew up with these great-tasting processed meat stuffs. Alongside this, colon and pancreatic cancers also grew at skyrocketing rates.

Just look at this undeniable connection. "Just one link of sausage a day raises your risk of getting pancreatic cancer by 19%. Two pieces of bacon and that number shoots up to 38%. Overall, people who ate the most processed meats, hot dogs and sausages, showed a whopping 67% increased risk of pancreatic cancer over those who consumed little or none." [British Journal of Cancer (2012)]

The trouble with processed meats starts when the meat source is raised with hormones, antibiotics, and pesticide-laden feeds. Compounding the problem is the unabated use of a particular food additive that preserves processed meats and gives it its inviting color. This additive, sodium nitrate, is found in varying amounts in almost every processed food. It takes high levels of sodium to cure meat. It's the nitrate/nitrite that turns these processed meats into loaded health-wreckers.

"When exposed to heat or acidic conditions in the stomach, nitrite becomes nitrosamines. It wasn't until about 50 years ago that we learned how they are formed, and what they do.

Most nitrosamines are organ specific. So, when tobacco forms a nitrosamine in the body, it targets the lungs. When sodium nitrate forms a nitrosamine, it targets the pancreas, and possibly the colon." [British Journal of Cancer (2012)]

As early as the 70's, the FDA was already well aware of sodium nitrate's cancer-causing properties and was close to banning it. However, around that time, scientists found that vitamins C and E inhibit the formation of nitrosamines.

That saved the day for food processors who were allowed by the FDA to continue using it as long as they added some forms of the vitamins to their products. Did you notice it in the labels of processed foods?

If you've been around for a while, odds are you've already eaten your fair share of sodium nitrate. And while you can't take back years of consumption, here are some steps you can start today to protect yourself.

Detox: Only you know how much sodium nitrate you've eaten in your lifetime. Take steps to detoxify your pancreas and colon, perhaps a juice fast or chelation. Find a physician, who knows how to help you responsibly detox your body.

Vitamin C and E Armor: If you feel like you can't get off bacon or sausage, then at least protect yourself with these vitamins. It's your best chance to stop the nitrate from becoming nitrosamine once it enters your system.

Extra Pancreas and Liver Support: Give your liver and pancreas extra support with lots of green, leafy vegetables like kale, and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower. Boost your levels of Vitamin D, especially if you're low or deficient. Junk high fructose corn syrup altogether and eliminate as much sugar as possible as well.

Include vitamins A, C, and E, the B vitamins, as well as zinc, calcium, and selenium in your liver support program. Your multivitamin/multimineral supplement must contain plenty of these essentials. Strengthening herbs, such as artichoke leaf, which stimulates the production of bile; milk thistle, which strengthens liver cell membranes and promotes the production of glutathione; and turmeric, which in turn, boosts detoxing enzymes in the liver, should be part of your support arsenal.

And lastly, scour the labels of the food packaging for the words "NO NITRATES" before you include it in your shopping cart.

The dangers of pancreatic and colon cancers from processed meats are real, so seriously consider taking the necessary steps to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Magnesium deficiency is the most common mineral deficiency in the United States. A government study reveals that 68% of Americans fall below the recommended daily intake for this very vital mineral. Magnesium is one of the 6 most important minerals that the body needs in large quantities.

Menopausal women who take calcium supplements, are on low carb dieting or hormone replacement therapy, are prone to suffer from this deficiency.

Men, on the other hand, also get magnesium deficiencies if they drink a lot of coffee, tea or carbonated sodas, or eat a few sugary snacks during the day. Excess refined dietary sugar causes you to lose a lot of magnesium through urination. Also, if you are under stress frequently, you can become deficient in magnesium due to your body’s increased production of cortisol and adrenaline. Both of these chemicals can deplete your magnesium stores.

"Virtually every known disease is associated with magnesium deficiency, including asthma, hypertension, cancer, diabetes, migraine, allergies, myocardial (h), and depression." Dr. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D.

"As I explain to my patients, magnesium is a critical mineral that your body needs to perform all its major functions, especially your heart, muscles and kidneys. In fact, magnesium is one of the first treatments given in emergency departments in heart attack patients. Optimal magnesium levels can also prevent stroke and obesity. If you’re one of the 55% of Americans who have a magnesium deficiency, follow the recommendations I give my own patients for maintaining optimal magnesium levels, and you’ll go a long way to improving most of those symptoms that perhaps you thought were due to just getting old!" Mark Rosenberg, M.D.

Magnesium Deficiency Symptoms

"Some of the most frequent complaints I hear from my patients, especially those over 50, involve muscle cramps and spasms, notably those leg zingers that make them jump out of bed in the middle of the night; trouble sleeping and daytime stiffness or pain in their muscles. Most of my patients laugh these symptoms off as just "getting old," but they’re surprised when I tell them these are more likely symptoms of a magnesium deficiency, which can easily be corrected." Mark Rosenberg, M.D.

"And since most magnesium is stored in the tissues, the first signs may be leg cramps, foot pain, or muscle twitches. Other symptoms can gradually develop, including, but not limited to: high blood pressure ... anxiety ... asthma ... inability to get into deep sleep ... restless legs ... blood sugar imbalances ... abnormal heart rhythms ... chest pains ... kidney stones ... and many other symptoms.

But be forewarned: Although the symptoms might be subtle or mild at first, magnesium deficiency is a dangerous condition and chronic deficiency can produce long-term damage and even be fatal." Dr. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D.

Symptoms are a better gauge in determining a deficiency because blood tests only show what magnesium is circulating in the blood at the time of the test. Also, medical conditions and medications to treat them, can cause magnesium deficiency.

How To Handle Magnesium Deficiency [by: Mark Rosenberg, M.D.]

If you have any of the conditions or symptoms listed above, you could very well have a magnesium deficiency as they are very common. Here are some recommendations I give my patients who have symptoms of magnesium deficiency:

Restrict refined sugar in your diet.

Restrict carbonated sodas, especially colas, which disable magnesium uptake.

Eat more magnesium rich foods such as pumpkin seeds, almonds, cashews, unsweetened cocoa powder, halibut, bran, spinach. Or, take a 250-500 mg magnesium supplement before bedtime especially if you’re bothered by sleep difficulty, leg muscle cramps or daytime muscle stiffness. Also, try transdermal (topical) magnesium for muscle cramps.

If you have soft water, it would be best to switch to bottled drinking water for consumption and leave your tap water for cleaning. Soft water depletes magnesium.

Restrict alcohol intake. Alcohol causes dehydration through frequent urination and magnesium gets depleted from urinary excretion.

I've written about this topic in one of my previous posts but I've recently come across more information which I feel I should share with you.

Long hours of sitting is now being referred to as the "new smoking" in medical circles due to the same risks of obesity, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and early death, associated with the latter.

Federal statistics reveal that more Americans spend more time sitting than sleeping - 10 hours a day in a car, at work, and in front of a television or computer. Older adults were found out to be the worst offenders as 75% have no leisure time activity at all.

And according to a recent American Cancer Society study, women who spent more than six hours of sitting daily outside of work had a 34% higher risk nof death than those who spent fewer than three hours.

In the results of another study, this time by the University of South Carolina, men were 64% more likely to die of heart disease if they sat more than 23 hours a week in front of the TV, compared with those who sat 11 hours or less a week.

The results of both studies hold true even for those who exercise regularly, especially the "active couch potatoes," or those who exercise daily for certain periods of time but spend most of their waking hours sitting down. [Read: Daily Exercise No Match To Long Hours Of Sitting]

Modern technology plays a big role in this unhealthy phenomenon. You don't stand up anymore to change TV channels. You don't get out of your car anymore to open the garage. You down climb up the stairs in buildings anymore to go to higher floors. Modern technology has virtually taken out the physical aspects of doing things. And the price we have to pay is our compromised health and well-being.

The obvious remedy is to break up those long hours of sitting as often as possible. At home, what can we do? Take a walk in your yard or neighborhood every now and then. Eat over the kitchen counter standing up. Don't use a motor vehicle to navigate short distances. Just walk or use a bicycle.

In the workplace, avoid the elevators and escalators in going to upper floors. Use the stairs instead. It will be a good idea if the standard table is a standing desk. It keeps you standing and provides you with the opportunity to pace your working area while pondering over something. A good suggestion by one of the study authors is the use of a TrekDesk, a standing desk which can be equipped with a treadmill. According to her, she logs 35 miles a week at 1.4 miles per hour, while working....surfing the net, reading emails, and typing. By the way, the use of a standing desk is very much applicable at home.

I'm one of those directly hit by the information here because after an hour or so of exercise, the rest of my waking time is practically spent in front of my laptop. For a change, I am now doing my laptop work standing up. I'm lucky to have a computer table whose top counter is almost waist high, so I have no problem adjusting to the setup.

So, it's now the reverse for me. While before I would stand up to rest from what I'm doing, now I will sit for a while to have a little rest. I like it, because now, I automatically pace the room while thinking of my next input to my laptop.navy brathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05087777054462571801noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089913784750981096.post-49005543144625975742011-10-10T02:39:00.000-07:002012-05-04T22:00:39.562-07:00The Lack Of Sleep Triggers More Dangers Than You Think

The lack of sleep is now considered a deadly epidemic that affects 1/3 to 1/2 of the population. It could very well become America's number 1 health concern.

Numerous studies have linked the lack of sleep to the following conditions;

heart disease

diabetes

obesity

depression

loss of mental agility

weariness and body aches

weakened immune system

dark circles under eyes

color blindness

hallucination

confusion

headaches

tremors

irritability

nausea

incoherent speech

death

As if the list above is not yet long enough, researchers from Case Western University School Of Medicine [CWUSM] recently published a study in the Cancer journal, which found a link between lack of sleep and colon tumors.

The study reveals that those who get less than 6 hours of sleep a night are 50% more likely to develop precancerous tumor of the colon compared with those getting 7 hours of sleep.

If this prolonged lack of sleep is left untreated, the body's deep healing processes cannot be completed, the inflammation continues, and the precancerous colon tumors can become malignant. I know of several cases of call center agents on graveyard shifts who had developed and succumbed to pancreatic cancer. And also of students who lack sleep becoming bloated!

Making up for lost sleep at night during daytime does not remedy the situation because our bodies are programmed in such as way that our system shuts off only during our night sleep to give rest to our organs.

The lack of sleep at night deprives our organs of their programmed rest, resulting in an overworked system that translates to illnesses.

So, there you are. Get at least 6 hours of sleep at night. If you have chronic difficulty getting the right amount, seek immediate medical attention. The dangers of lack of sleep are real!
Health watchers know that broccoli is well-known for its powerful cancer-fighting properties.

But did you know that you can get 20 to 50 times more cancer protection by eating 3-day-old broccoli sprouts?

broccoli sprouts

This is because the broccoli's cancer-fighting compounds, such as sulforaphane, are more concentrated in the sprouts. Just an ounce of the broccoli sprout contains more sulforaphane than two pounds of the mature broccoli head.

There are more than 700 studies to date which have examined the link between sulforaphane from cruciferous vegetables, and cancer prevention.

One interesting study suggests the carcinogen detoxification action of broccoli sprouts. In simple language, those who ate broccoli sprouts were cleansed of cancer-causing substances.

In another series of studies, Japanese researchers found an exciting link between broccoli sprouts and H.pylori infection, which is known to cause gastritis and believed to be a major factor in peptic ulcer and stomach cancer. The researchers discovered that simply eating broccoli sprouts suppressed the H.pylori infection and relieved the accompanying gastritis.

Researchers at The Ohio State University Medical Center furthermore found out that consuming broccoli and brussels sprouts induces the body to produce 13C [indole-3-carbinol], a substance which has the ability to stop the proliferation of breast cancer cells and the molecule called Cdc25A, which is present in abnormally high levels in breast cancer patients.

Aside from attacking and destroying both the Cdc25A and breast cancer cells, the researchers believe that 13C can also fight other cancer cells and possibly reverse Alzheimer's disease.

Broccoli sprout is a very potent natural cancer cure readily available at local grocery stores, or if you desire, in your own backyard. You can easily grow broccoli sprouts at home. Just buy broccoli seeds from health food markets or coops, soak it in water, and rinse it once a day.

The seeds will sprout by day 3. It will attain its maximum carcinogen detoxifying properties in another three days, and that's the time to harvest and incorporate it into your recipes, or use as an edible garnish.
Do you know if you are already experiencing signs of Alzheimer's Disease?

Statistics reveal that 20% of people over 65, and half of people over 85, are already afflicted with Alzheimer's without knowing it? What are the chances of a person getting it?

Usually, we know that advanced age, and having the ApoE4 gene [which raises the genetic risks], are big risk factors in contracting the disease. And low scores in test of mental skills are also indicative of cognitive decline.

But there are other risk factors for cognitive impairment most people don't know, and which they should be aware of in order to take positive steps to minimize mental decline;

Complete abstinence from alcohol may actually promote dementia. According to a study presented at the Alzheimer's Association 2009 International Conference, having one to two alcoholic drinks a day may help prevent dementia in elderly persons. Note: Excessive consumption, however, may have the opposite effect and promote dementia.

Slowness of mind or movement. In a 6 year study, approximately 50% of cases of dementia that developed in elderly people, was indicative of this factor.

Being underweight is another indication.

A history of heart bypass surgery also puts you at risk of dementia.

According to a study published in the journal of Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders, having even borderline high cholesterol in midlife increases the risk of Alzheimer's 30 years later in life.[I strongly suggest you also read Low Cholesterol Level - A Danger Sign?] Different medical groups have varying opinions on what cholesterol level one should have. I would go with those who say that cholesterol is not bad because this has been proven by countless studies already.

Smoking, passive lifestyle, and deficiency in fruits and vegetables in the diet have also been linked to mental impairment.

The good news for you is that you can take the steps to minimize mental decline since you now know the risk factors;

Monitor your weight regularly to avoid being underweight and to maintain your ideal body weight.

Keep your cholesterol level within healthy range.

Keep smoking out of your life

Exercise regularly

Keep a healthy diet which includes fruits and veggies

Hyperthermia therapy, a cancer breakthrough perfected in Germany, has been attracting a lot of people to the country, including Hollywood celebrities and public figures, seeking effective and safe alternative treament for cancer.

Hyperthermia therapy is based on the principle that cancer cells, unlike normal cells, can't endure heat. Its healing mechanism works like a fever. Our body's immune system goes into fever mode to fight infection because high temperature kills invading microbes while leaving our healthy cells undamaged.
The most scientifically advanced cancer treatment you can get on planet Earth is banned in America! [Pssst! It costs just a tenth of US treatments... maybe that's why!] Get the information about this effective, safe, and painless treatment at German Cancer Breakthrough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A hyperthermia treatment typically lasts for 6 hours. High body temperature of about 105 degrees Fahrenheit is induced, and then maintained for 2 hours. Body temperature is then gradually lowered back to normal over the next two hours. Vital body signs and hydration are constantly monitored throughout the procedure.

Hyperthermia annihilates cancer cells by the millions. Those that manage to survive the massacre are so weak and can easily be finished off by vitamin C cancer therapy. [read: Vitamin C Cancer Therapy's Bright Hope]

Hyperthermia is so safe, effective, and painless. It is totally devoid of the ugly side effects of radiation and chemotherapy such as vomiting, loss of appetite, weakness, and loss of hair, among others.

And here's the thing I think most of you would want to hear.... the hyperthermia therapy will cost you only one tenth of a chemo or radiation treatment.

Btw, among those who benefitted from this German cancer breakthrough was President Ronald Reagan who had his colon cancer treated in Germany. He died 19 years later of pneumonia, and not of a malignancy. Another one is Princess Caroline of Monaco who was cured of breast cancer.
When a person craves for sweets, it means a signal is being sent to the brain for the need for more sugar.

These cravings for sugar is often the result of a deficiency in chromium. Insufficiency of this mineral makes a person gain fat, and can ultimately lead to obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disorder, and alzheimer's disease.
Obviously, one has to maintain a sufficient amount of chromium in the body to keep the cravings for sugar in check. It's as easy as taking chromium supplements to fill the deficiency.

Chromium stops the signal to the brain for more sugar by balancing blood sugar levels.

When you experience cravings for sugar, try to take chromium supplement. If your cravings subside after 20 minutes, it is an indication of chromium deficiency which has just been reversed.

To stop cravings for sugar, make sure to take chromium supplements at the recommended dosage of 200 mcg to 1,000 mcg daily, taken in small divided doses on a full stomach.navy brathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05087777054462571801noreply@blogger.com0
