Eliminating Dengue Mosquito With "Ovitrap"

Aedes aegypti in Dar es Salaam, TanzaniaHarken up everyone! Despair no more!

Eliminating dengue mosquitos permanently from our midst might be just a few weeks away! Relieving the country and the populace of the health burden that plagues us annually is finally within sight.

Epidemologists of the Department of Science and Technology are already on the final stages of the field testing of the "ovitrap." Laboratory tests conducted on this contraption yielded a 100% effectivity rating. Optimism is high that the same results will come out of the field tests.

The "ovitrap" works by attracting and trapping female dengue carrying mosquitos to a specially made container filled with a solution concocted from plant extracts. The special solution is the thing that attracts the mosquitos to the apparatus. Though the solution used in the lab tests is already 100% effective, the people behind the project are still working on a stronger mixture.

The concept behind the ovitrap is really very simple. It is designed to attract and kill the female mosquitos and its eggs. Without the female mosquitos and the larvae, the goal of eliminating the mosquito population is highly achievable.

It's so heartening that a solution for a persistent public health problem would come from an institution outside of the Department of Health. It shows they're more sensitive and responsive to the people's needs.

Alleged natural cures for dengue fever were suggested by some sectors based on purported cures experienced by users. But the Department of Health was lukewarm to the idea. Instead of looking deeper into it by probably conducting their own tests to put the issue to rest once and for all, they just dismissed the suggestions outright because they were not clinically tried and proven.

Our Asian neighbors are always steps ahead of us due to the indifference of our public officials of looking into new things. What if our neighbors got wind of the camote tips and "tawa'tawa" dengue cures, tested it and got positive results. We would be left out again holding the proverbial empty bag.
