Sunshine Vitamin D - Good Reason To Adjust Jogging Time

I used to get up from bed very early in the morning and hit the road while it was still dark. So, do most of the other early morning joggers.

By the time the first rays of the sun start showing, we would already be off the roads or  jogging venues. Some would be hurrying up as they still had to prepare for work, while others simply shun sunlight to avoid alleged damage it does to the skin, especially the beauty-conscious ladies.

I admit that I had taken Vitamin D for granted for quite a long time, though not wilfully, but more due to ignorance. From our grade school days, I remember it being taught as good for rickets, a vitamin D deficiency in children characterized by the softening of the bones, thereby making a skeletal structure prone to bending and structural damage. Adults with Vitamin D deficiency are in danger of suffering from muscular and bone weakness, known as osteomalacia. Osteoporosis?

I've read a lot of articles about vitamin D and the myriad of benefits that can be derived from it. Yes, so many that some advocates are calling it the wonder vitamin. [read Vitamin D Benefits]

And to think that we can get an unlimited supply of vitamin D, all for free, from nature's natural laser beam, the rays from the sun.

We don't hear much, or anything about the health benefits of sunshine, because there's no money to be made from it. On the contrary, we're being fed the lie and distortion about sunshine's alleged damaging effects on our skin. By whom? Of course by the makers of sunblock lotions and creams coupled with endorsements by some medical people.

Sunblock products do more damage on our skin due to its chemical components. You don't really need these things. All you have to do is avoid overexposure to the sun, especially between 10 AM and 3 PM. Get your sunlight outside of these hours, preferably during early morning, and you will have nothing to worry about.

Since becoming aware of the many benefits of sunlight, I had adjusted my jogging time to start with the sun already visible on the horizon. This time, as I hit the road, I meet the other joggers going the opposite direction, already homeward bound. It does not matter if the jogging site is almost deserted already, for what matters most is a rich harvest of vitamin D which does wonders for the body. [read Vitamin D Benefits]
