Prostate Health: Simple Way To Protect Prostate Health

Prostate cancer, when diagnosed early, is highly curable. But when discovered in an already advanced stage, it can be lethal.

So, obviously, the best way to protect prostate health is to preempt prostate cancer from taking root by practicing preventive medicine.

Here's good news for all male denizens of this planet.

In a recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, conducted by a combined team of American and Swedish researchers at Harvard Medical School over a period of six years, it was noted that prostate cancer patients who had higher levels of zinc from the food they ate have 36% lower risk of dying from the disease. They also found some initial findings that zinc actually kills off cancer cells, though its efficacy rate cannot yet be ascertained.

The highest concentration of zinc in the body can be found in the prostate gland. Men with prostate cancer characteristically suffer from lower zinc levels. This stresses the wisdom and urgency of boosting the amount of zinc even before one is diagnosed with the condition.

A safe way to get the body's zinc requirements is by boosting the consumption of foods rich in the mineral, like: grass-fed beef, pork, oysters and other shellfish, nuts and seeds, beans, and whole grains.

You may choose to complement the food sources of zinc with supplements, at a recommended daily dose of only 15 mg. Good multivitamins would contain about this amount of zinc per caplet. Taking higher amounts of zinc on a long-term basis can deplete copper level in our body so it is advisable to also take 1 mg of copper for every 15 mg of zinc to neutralize and balance the effect. The supplement at left contains zinc along with the well-known medicinal palm extract saw palmetto.

This is by far one of the easiest prostate protection tips I've come across which I would likely implement  immediately. I understand that zinc also plays a vital role both in preventing, and managing, benign prostatic hyperplasia [BPH]. Zinc reduces the size of the enlarged prostate along with the discomforts that come with it.

Statisitics say that 50% of men over age 60 undergo the BHP experience, and 14% will eventually develop prostate cancer. So, to our menfolks, act now and don't dilly-dally!
