The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation [JDRF] is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications by funding research.
The photo you see above was taken at a KFC restaurant in Utah. No, it is not a joke, nor a mistake. It is a campaign material to help raise funds for JDRF's mission.
The intention is noble but the inappropriateness of the method was rather appalling.
The fundraising campaign pitch encourages restaurant patrons to gulp down large quantities of sugar-filled soda, which greatly contributes to the very disease which the foundation is trying to eliminate.
In fairness to KFC, it was found out that the promo campaign involved only one franchise store, whose owner has a personal interest in type 1 diabetes.
