Chlorine for Your Sweetener?

Believe it or not, I've unknowingly used chlorine as my coffee sweetener on so many occasions simply because the sweetener of my choice was not around. I'm sure a lot of you have also been deceived into using this "healthy" sugar replacement. I see it everywhere where a sweetener is needed..... in my kins' and friends' houses, in coffee shops and restaurants, in airplanes and ships.

I'm referring to the very popular brand Splenda [sucralose]. The manufacturing process for Splenda starts with cane sugar. By the time the processing is done, all the real sugar disappears and what is left are the chlorocarbons....the same molecules that chlorine is made of. This is the same chlorine we put in our pools and in our washing machine in the form of chlorine bleach.

Recently, I came across some very disturbing information. A study from Duke University, published in the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health was conducted where lab rats were fed Splenda for 12 weeks. After the study, it was revealed that the chlorine found in Splenda destroyed all of the good bacteria in their guts that helps fight off infection and plays a central role in the immune system.

Dr. James Bowen, a graduate of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and an authority on artificial sweeteners after being poisoned by aspartame [NutraSweet], has this to say about Splenda;

"Splenda/sucralose is simply chlorinated sugar; a chlorocarbon. Chlorine is nature's Doberman attack dog, a highly excitable, ferocious atomic element employed as a biocide in bleach, disinfectants, insecticide, WWI poison gas and hydrochloric acid.

Any chlorocarbons not directly excreted from the body intact can cause immense damage to the processes of human metabolism and, eventually, our internal organs.

The liver is a detoxification organ which deals with ingested poisons. Chlorocarbons damage the hepatocytes, the liver's metabolic cells, and destroy them. In test animals Splenda produced swollen livers, as do all chlorocarbon poisons, and also calcified the kidneys of test animals in toxicity studies.

The brain and nervous system are highly subject to metabolic toxicities and solvency damages by these chemicals. Their high solvency attacks the human nervous system and many other body systems including genetics and the immune function. Thus, chlorocarbon poisoning can cause cancer, birth defects, and immune system destruction. These are well known effects of Dioxin and PCBs which are known deadly chlorocarbons."

My preferred sweetener which I mentioned at the start of this post is Stevia.  It is a sweet herb used for centuries, especially in South America. It's about 300 times sweeter than sugar and comes from the leaves of the Stevia plant.

The FDA has approved Stevia as a food supplement, so you can buy it at most health food stores or on the Internet. And that's good news, considering the FDA blocked the use of Stevia for almost 100 years due to pressure from the sugar industry.
